Julie Scaife

Julie Scaife, graduating senior in English education, is the recipient of the Glenn Kendall Public Service Award. Judith Rodby, English, nominated Scaife for the award, describing her as “academically gifted, highly self-motivated, and a natural leader.” Throughout her four years at CSU, Chico, Scaife participated in a plethora of university service and leadership programs, including A.S. Student Activities, A.S. Leadership Programs, and Community Action Volunteers in Education (CAVE). She was an active member of the Golden Key International Honor Society and directed many events, including campus blood drives, Enloe Medical Center visits, and the CSU, Chico Giving Tree. She served as president of the Chico State Make-a-Wish Foundation and as co-director of the Wildcat Pride program. Scaife volunteered with a number of community organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club of Chico, Wings of Eagles, and the Girl Scouts. Scaife was also a member of the Chico State Cheer and Dance Team. She graduates with a high grade point average and plans to pursue a law degree.

Five students received honorable mention certificates in recognition of their outstanding service to the university and the community.

  • Jennifer Cooper, graduating senior in journalism and political science.

  • Karen Hosier, re-entry graduating senior in sociology.

  • Clare LaFrance, graduating senior in philosophy.

  • Leanne Mixa, recreation administration.

  • Sarah Seward, speech language pathology and audiology.

The Glenn Kendall Public Service Award was established in 1970 in recognition of former Chico State College president Glenn Kendall, who placed public service at the top of his professional priorities and dedicated his career to encouraging faculty and students to do likewise.
