Intriguing CreationsVisitors to Kendall Hall are being greeted by a nearly life-size papier-mâché camel on its knees. This provocative piece, covered with international newspaper strips (Arabic-language papers on the head) is part of the annual Staff and Faculty Art Exhibition. The camel sculpture, Quernica, was created by Marilyn Moore, Regional and Continuing Education. In reference to the piece, Moore said, “As battles rage in Iraq, we are all embroiled in an international nightmare and struggling to rise under the burden of war.” David Ferguson, Upward Bound, also has an interesting sculpture in the show, an untitled piece made of walnut, copper, brass, steel, and mother-of-pearl. There are pieces by perennial favorites Dolores Mitchell, art professor, and Paul Feldhaus, art professor emeritus. Mitchell’s oil painting 5 Mile Bidwell Park Chico is particularly beautiful with its powerful bridge and shimmering water. The exhibit runs through May 22. Lisa Kirk |
