Mary Poulin Named
Staff Employee of the Year
Mary Poulin, Staff Employee of
the Year, has been described by people who work with her as “the
perfect combination of grace and competence” and “the
heart of the Construction Management Department.”
The administrative coordinator for the Department of Construction Management,
Mary Poulin, was named the Staff Employee of the Year for 2002 at the
annual Staff Awards Luncheon on Thursday, April 24.
Poulin has been an employee on campus for more than 30 years. She assists
faculty with their paperwork for hundreds of thousands of dollars in research
contracts, grants, and gifts. She also handles payroll, equipment purchases,
and contract bidding and awards. Her dedication to service has a direct
and positive effect on the thousands of dollars in support contributions
from companies that recruit construction management students. Poulin also
maintains records for more than 370 majors, coordinates with other departments
within the college, and serves as liaison with other offices throughout
the university. She does all of this practically single-handedly.
Poulin is dedicated to serving every student, alumnus, faculty member,
and fellow staff member. She participates in university-wide activities
and volunteers her weekends and evenings for graduation activities, President’s
Scholars Day, Parents’ Day, and scholarship award ceremonies. She
also participates in the college’s outreach activities. Alumni and
industry professionals often seek Poulin’s assistance and comment
that she is an asset to the department and university.
Her nominators described her as “the kind of top-notch professional
you would hope others strive to be.”
Note: Other awards given at the Staff Awards Luncheon
will be covered in the May 15 issue of Inside Chico State.
