Kids Learn to Be Entrepreneurs
Kids learned business skills and how to apply them in their lives at the Wise Kid Healthy Kid Youth Entrepreneur Camp sponsored by the CSU, Chico chapter of Students in Free Enterprise. For four Saturdays in October, about 100 children in grades 5 through 8 participated in the camp, which SIFE holds once a semester. The campers then set up shop at a carnival held in Children's Park in downtown Chico on Oct. 25, selling products they had made themselves, including key chains, picture frames, stepping stones, antenna balls, and origami flowers. The two girls in the photo above, Anna Guiles (left) and Michaela Simmons, created a candle business. The campers were treated to a bounce house, live music, pumpkin painting, and prizes. The event was a Make a Difference Day project for the SIFE students. According to Rebecca Monmaney, Wise Kid Healthy Kid camp director, approximately 250 people, including SIFE staff, parents, and volunteers, participated.
