Award-Winning Writer on America and Religion in the '60s
Mark Oppenheimer will speak Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the Humanities Center in Trinity Hall at 7 pm. Oppenheimer is the author of the recently published book Knocking on Heaven's Door: American Religion in the Age of Counterculture. Drawing on a rich range of archival material as well as personal interviews, he offers a wry and iconoclastic reappraisal of the ways in which the upheavals of the 1960s changed America's relationship with God. Oppenheimer is a staff writer for Christian Century; his work has also appeared in the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, and Playboy. He is the first recipient of the Koret Young Writer on Jewish Themes award. This lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Harriet Spiegel at x6873. The event is sponsored by the Koret Foundation, the College of Humanities and Fine Arts, and the Religious Studies Department.
