Richard Demaree, Biological Sciences, co-authored "Heterophyopsis hawaiiensis n. sp. (Trematoda: Heterophyidae) from the Hawaiian Monk Seal, Monachus schauinslandi Matschie, 1905 (Carnivora: Phocidae)," published in Comparative Parasitology, Vol. 71, No. 1, 2004. He also co-authored "Acanthocephala Cystacanth Infections in Sand Crabs from Bodega Bay, California," published by California Fish and Game, Vol. 90, No. 1, 2004.

Anita Fernandez, Education, had "Autobiography in Multicultural, Antiracist Education: Three Case Studies" published in Teaching and Learning: Journal of Natural Inquiry and Reflective Practice, Vol. 18, No. 1, 2004.

Michael Gillis and Michael Magliari, History, had John Bidwell and California: The Life and Writings of a Pioneer, 1841-1900 printed in paperback by Arthur H. Clark in 2004. The hardcover edition published in 2003 went through two printings.

Cris Guenter, Education, had the second edition of Portfolio and Assessment Techniques published by McGraw-Hill in 2004.

David Kagan, Physics, had "Energy and Momentum in the Gauss Accelerator" published in The Physics Teacher, Jan. 2004.

Michael Marchetti, Biological Sciences, co-authored "Invasive Species Profiling: Exploring the Characteristics of Exotic Fishes Across Invasion Stages in California," published in Freshwater Biology in 2004. He also co-authored "Invasion and Extinction in California Fish Assemblages: Testing Hypotheses Using Landscape Patterns," published in Ecological Applications in 2004.

James Matray, History, had "Someplace Else: The Tragedy of Korean-American Relations" published in Diplomatic History, Vol. 28, No. 1, 2004. He also had a review of William Stueck's Rethinking the Korean War: A New Diplomatic and Strategic History published in the Dec. 2003 issue of The International History Review; a review of editor Louis Baldovi's A Foxhole View: Personal Accounts of Hawaii's Korean War published in the fall 2003 issue of Pacific Affairs; and a review of Pasi Tuunainen's The Role of Presidential Advisory Systems in U.S. Foreign Policy Making: The Case of the National Security Council and Vietnam, 1953-1961 published in the summer 2003 issue of Pacific Affairs.

Charles C. Turner and Lori Beth Way, Political Science, had "Classifying Supreme Court Concurrences: The Case of Justice Clarence Thomas" published in the Journal of Political Science, Vol. 31, 2003.

Grants and Contracts

Kris Blee and Gordon Wolfe, Biological Sciences, received $9,911 from the California State University Program in Research and Biotechnology for research on impacts of induced plant defense gene products on rhizospere microbiota.

Cindy Wolff, Biological Sciences, received $207,966 from the Butte County Commission on Families and Children for OPT for Fit Kids, an overweight prevention and treatment program for Butte County children through age five.

Awards and Activities

James Matray, History, presented "A Curious Frontier: Anti-Americanism in South Korea" at the 118th annual meeting of the American Historical Association in Washington, D.C., in January.

Donald Miller, Biological Sciences, received a National Science Foundation-sponsored travel grant from the Entomological Society of America to attend the International Congress of Entomology in Brisbane, Australia.

Robert O'Brien, English, presented "Experience and The Doctrine and Discipline of Divorce" at the International Milton Congress at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in March.

Kui-Hee Song, Social Work, was the principal investigator for an 11-month evaluation of the Local Interagency Network for Children and Family Services (LINCS) Program with the Shasta County Department of Social Services. She also presented "Redesigning Children and Family Services in Foster Care Systems: Shasta Model of LINCS" at the 18th annual conference on Child and Family Maltreatment in San Diego in January.
