Allen Sherwood Leaves CSU, Chico

Allen Sherwood, director of Alumni and Parent Relations at CSU, Chico for eight years, accepted a job as executive director of alumni for San Francisco State beginning September 2. San Francisco State's alumni association has over 150,000 alumni and thirty-four chapters.

A 1966 alumnus of Chico State, Sherwood started as executive director to the CSU, Chico Alumni Association in 1990. He coordinated commencement for the eight years he was at Chico, served on the Executive Board of the CSU Alumni Council, and is currently on the CSU Trustee Search Committee.

Marla Forrest, president of the Chico State Alumni Association, attributes the success and growth of the Chico Alumni Chapter (85,000 alums and twenty-five clubs and chapters) to Sherwood's outstanding leadership.

Forrest especially appreciated Sherwood's humor and zest for life, and his willingness to work behind the scenes so that "others, like myself, shine."

Sherwood said of his time at Chico, "I loved Chico State--it's impossible to replicate the spirit of Chico State anywhere else--it is a blend of a unique place with a quality learning experience. It lasts a lifetime and made recruiting Chico alumni an easy task. Chico Staters are special; I've been on every campus in the CSU system and none comes close to matching that special ambience we call the `Spirit of Chico State.'"

Sherwood and his wife, Celeste, who teaches in the American Language and Culture Institute, will maintain their home in Chico.
