Viewpoints on Photography Series April 22 and 23

Ken Light, a social documentary photographer whose work has appeared in publications worldwide, will show slides from his most recent book, Texas Death Row, and will speak about his work on Wednesday, April 22, Ayres 106, as part of "Viewpoints on Photography," a series on photography open to the public and sponsored by the Departments of Art and Art History and Journalism, the Associated Students, and Butte College.

Larry Sultan, photographer, will show slides of his work on Thursday, April 23, Ayres 106. Sultan's recent solo exhibition at the San Jose Museum of art, Pictures from Home, documents the life of his parents. He has created considerable public art and published four books of his photography. Sultan is currently chair of the Photography Department at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland.

Both Light, currently curator of the Photographic Gallery, Graduate School of Journalism, UC, Berkeley, and Sultan will participate in a public symposium, "New Approaches to Documentary Photography," on Thursday, April 23, 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in Ayres 201.

As part of the series, there is an exhibition of documentary photographs by Eugene Atget, W. Eugene Smith, and Berenice Abbot, and a reception at the 3rd Floor Gallery, BMU, on Wednesday, April 22, at 6 p.m.
