President Esteban Receives Distinguished Alumni Award from UCSB

President Manuel A. Esteban, who received his Ph.D. from UC Santa Barbara, was honored as one of its distinguished alumni in February. Flood and wind damage closed the campus at the time the ceremony was to have taken place. Peter Steiner, UCSB came to Chico during Founders Week and presented the award preceding Chancellor Reed's talk on Tuesday, April 21. Esteban remarked, "I am thrilled to receive this award here in Chico. How lucky I am to have been educated in both Canada and the United States. I had already begun working at the age of fourteen in Spain. My life was totally changed by the opportunities and generosity I received in both countries." Esteban received a similar distinguished alumni award from the University of Calgary where he did his undergraduate and master's work. (photo JW)
