Forensics Students Honored

At the Northern California Forensics Association spring business meeting, Sue Lowrie was named top debater in the region, while Sarah DeForest was awarded honors as top public speaker. These awards are based on the overall number of trophies earned by students over the entire competitive year.

It's unusual that a single school receives both of these awards, especially since so few programs in the U.S. still compete in both public speaking and debate. CSU, Chico is up against colleges who specialize in one or the other.

Kathy Waste, adviser to the forensics team, commented, "This cements our position in the region and in California as a first-rate forensics program."

Additionally, Cara Cupp was named to the Academic All America Team, joining her partner Sue Lowrie, who made the team as a junior. In spite of a grueling travel schedule, Cara maintained a 4.0 GPA. Both women are graduating.

This is the fourth year in a row, CSU, Chico has had students make the All-America Team.
