California State University, Chico Journalism Professor Glen Bleske has been named Outstanding Journalism Teacher of the Year at a Four-Year University by the California Newspaper Publishers Association.
Bleske, who joined the CSU, Chico Journalism faculty in fall 1994, teaches newswriting, reporting and editing classes as well as public opinion and popular cultures courses.
Journalism faculty member and Orion adviser Dave Waddell paid tribute to Bleske in his letter of nomination: "Chico's laboratory newspaper, The Orion, has been recognized over and over again as one of the finest university newspapers in the state and the nation. The foundation of fundamentals that Dr. Bleske teaches has contributed to the paper's success."
Bleske's research specialties include journalism history, the development of the Black press in the United States, and journalism education.
Prior to coming to CSU, Chico, Bleske taught at the University of North Carolina and the University of Florida. His professional experience includes work at newspapers in Daytona Beach, Richmond, Indiana; and Melborne, Florida. He earned his Ph.D. from the Uni-versity of North Carolina.
