District’s park plan.
Students in Fred Brooks' Planning and Design of Recreational Areas Facilities course just completed a design for a forty-acre park for the Feather River Recreation and Park District. The park, located in Oroville, has $50,000 set aside for its development.

The students, with Jason Bittenbender as their project chair, worked closely with the district in the design process, meeting with the board, presenting plans, and adjusting them to the district's needs. The main design challenge was fitting nine soccer fields into the available space and working within the constraints of the topography.

Administrators from the district attended a ceremony on April 30 where President Manuel A. Esteban presented awards to the students. This project is one of approximately one hundred projects completed by students in Brooks' design classes over the last several years.

Brooks alsopresented Recreation and Parks Management Chair Steve Dennis, a graduate of the department, with a framed award for his work with student crews on many park design and installation projects.
