Russ Woody, commencement speaker, Saturday, May 23
|
Russ Woody, a 1979 graduate of CSU, Chico, is consulting producer
with Brillstein/Grey. In 1990 he won an Emmy as writer/producer of
Murphy Brown, and in 1997 he won a Golden Globe Award as co-executive
producer of Cybil.
He began his productive career in television as a production assistant
for the Benson program and then as a writer for the
Benson, Barney Miller, Fantasy Island, and
Webster shows. While employed with the Mary
Tyler Moore production company, he also wrote episodes for
Newhart, Hill Street Blues, St. Elsewhere, and
Slap Maxwell. Woody was writer/producer
for Parenthood, Good Sports, and Room for
Two. He was co-executive producer of Mad About
You in 1993.
He and his Australian wife, Cath Campbell, have two sons,
three-year-old Henry and one-year-old Joe.

Peter Schrag, commencement speaker, Sunday, May 24
|
Peter Schrag has been a reporter, freelance writer,
magazine and newspaper editor, book author, and university
administrator. A Guggenheim Fellow in 1971, he was awarded a
National Endowment Fellowship in 1976-77 and served as a Pulitzer
Prize Juror in 1988-89. He has been executive editor of
Saturday Review, editor of Change
magazine, contributing editor for MORE journalism review,
and editorial page editor for the Sacramento
Bee. He is the author of nine books, including
Village School Downtown (1967), The Decline of the
WASP (1972), Test of Loyalty (1974),
Mind Control (1978), and Paradise Lost: California's Experience and America's
Future (1998). His articles have appeared in
The Atlantic, Harpers, The Nation, The New Republic,
New York Review of Books, and Saturday
Review, among other magazines.
