Walker will work with the president, advancement personnel, and the various colleges and programs to find funding gaps, assist in creating a unified scholarship funding program, and provide stewardship to scholarship donors. "The first step," said Walker, "is to get my arms around everything that has gone on with scholarships. That includes meeting my counterparts and colleagues and fostering collaboration."
Walker's background in consulting, assessment, and training with Fortune 500 companies and universities (her field before a year-and-a-half as assistant director of development in the College of Engineering at CSU, Long Beach) has provided her with the skills and experience in team-building, marketing, and establishing open lines of communication. Her achievements in business led to her induction in the 1997 International Who's Who of Professionals.
Walker helped surpass the fund- raising goal of $11.5 million for Engineering at CSU, Long Beach by helping to bring in over $28 million. This success led to an invitation to apply for the new position at CSU, Chico. Walker was drawn to the position because it will directly benefit students in achieving their college goals.
As well as meeting her career goals, Walker's move to Northern California allows her to be closer to an uncle and an aunt, and to her daughter, who is now a sophomore at San Francisco State. She's already begun talking to her daughter, she said, about some of the advantages of transferring to Chico.
