Frank Watters
Frank Watters, CSU, Chico economics professor from 1966 until his retirement in 1991, died Tuesday, January 19, 1999, at his home.

A Celebration of Life was held January 30 at the CARD Community Center in Chico.

Watters was born June 21, 1928, to Frederick and Cora Watters in Somers, Montana. After high school, he attended the University of Washington and served in the Air Force Intelligence Service for five years where he attained the rank of first lieutenant.

He received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1966. His area of expertise was Russian economic history.

During his tenure at CSU, Chico, Watters served as both Department of Economics chair and as a representative on the Academic Senate.

Watters was very active in the Chico community, serving for ten years on the Chico Planning Commission and for five years on the Butte County Planning Commission.

He was instrumental in establishing the Butte County Children's Trust Fund for Abused Children. In his retirement, he served on the Area Council on Aging and collaborated with his son Ethan on two books and numerous articles.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Chico; two sons, Aaron of Highland Park, N.J., and Ethan of San Francisco; and two grandchildren.
