SIFE Gift Honors Son

Zheng-We Li and Xue-Hua, parents of Zong-Ye Li, have established a $10,000 scholarship in his name. Zong was a Pleasant Valley High School senior attending a SIFE-sponsored Venture Camp at Mills College in Oakland at the time of his death in on June 19, 1998.

Zong, born in Shanghai, China, moved to Chico in 1997 from Rochester, New York. His plan was to be an accountant, and his interest and talent was in technology and how it could improve accounting.

Zong had taken Principles of Accounting I at CSU, Chico from Curt DeBerg in spring of 1998 and did outstanding work. DeBerg described him as a "lightning rod" student with the marks of a leader. "His personality, wit, charm, and work ethic made people gravitate toward him," said DeBerg. Zong was also an enthusiastic member of the Chico State SIFE team.

Criteria for the scholarship recipients include maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA and being a project leader of a CSU, Chico SIFE team. For further information on the scholarship, call the College of Business, at 898-6271.KM
