Students should now be able to communicate with ease through the Wildcat E-mail System. The new, full-featured electronic messaging system for students went on line January 19 and students receiving new e-mail accounts will use it.
"Although e-mail services have been available to all faculty, staff, and students for many years, the capabilities of older systems varied widely, thereby eliminating effective communication," said Fred Ryan, vice provost of Information Resources. "Wildcat E-mail and Microsoft Exchange provide the foundation for much more efficient communication, including the exchange of documents and HTML messages. The campus owes a debt of thanks to the faculty and staff of the College of Engineering and Computer Technology Information Resources for leading the way and providing e-mail services to the university from the beginning stages."
The new system, using Netscape Communications SuiteSpot products, is the student complement to the faculty/staff Exchange (Outlook) messaging system. Migration of pre-existing e-mail and Web accounts on the College of ECT's system to the new Wildcat system will begin in late February.
Please direct students who need an account to Student Computing on the first floor of Meriam Library. Students can also call x4357. Student Computing provides help desk services and will be providing training sessions on the use of the Wildcat System.
Faculty interested in using the Wildcat System to benefit instructional goals should contact Jerry Ringel, Student Computing, x4859 or jringel@csuchico.edu.
