Fulbright Scholar Grants


Anthony Graybosch, Philosophy, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant for the second year in a row. The grant extends his work in Poland.

Graybosch is teaching in a five-year program leading to a masters degree in English Literature at the Institute of English, University of Gdansk, Poland. He was invited to extend his Fulbright for another academic year in order to continue to teach advanced seminars.

Graybosch will also present a paper on Noam Chomsky's views on American media at a joint US-Poland conference on social and political philosophy in May 1999.

A 1998-99 Fulbright grant has also been awarded to foreign scholar Mihai Coman from Romania, who will spend a year teaching and researching at CSU, Chico. Coman, a journalist and the dean of the School of Journalism at the University of Bucharest, will focus on political communication, specifically the use and misuse of symbols, while at CSU, Chico.

Peter Gross, Journalism, who is sponsoring Coman, has been consulting, training, and conducting research in Eastern Europe for the last nine years. He has a long-standing professional and collaborative relationship with Coman. Gross has brought 119 Romanian journalists, journalism students, and educators to Chico since 1990.
