Former Dean Assumes New Vice Provost Position

Arno Rethans, former dean of the College of Business, is California State University, Chico's new vice provost for Planning and Resource Allocation. He began his duties in the newly created position February 8.

Rethans will work closely with Provost Scott McNall in planning the academic direction of the university and refining budgeting and management systems.

"As the former dean of the College of Business, Arno will be a tremendous asset to the provost's office," said McNall. "His background as a teacher, administrator, and business consultant makes him well qualified to help the university continue to offer top-flight academic programs."

"I'm excited about this opportunity to take part in the planning and implementation of university-wide strategic initiatives and academic affairs," said Rethans. "The future of CSU, Chico is bright, and I'm looking forward to helping shape it."

Rethans was dean of the College of Business from 1990 to 1998. He joined the CSU, Chico faculty as a professor of marketing in 1987. Prior to coming to CSU, Chico, Rethans taught for eight years at Pennsylvania State University. He earned a B.A. and a Ph.D. from the University of Oregon and his M.B.A. from the University of Portland.

Rethans is the author of numerous journal articles on marketing theory and research, and is the co-author of Basic Systems for Decision Making and Study Guide to Accompany Business Statistics: Why and When.
