Premier Glass Artists in Chico

Katherine Gray, glass artist from Seattle, works on a table centerpiece with the help of an assistant at a California Glass Exchange demonstration in the Chico State studio on March 27. Participants in the two-day event watched glass blowing demonstrations by guest artists and by local glass artists from nationally known Satava Art Glass and Orient & Flume Art Glass. Rick Satava and many Orient & Flume artists were trained in the Chico State glass program, the first in the CSU system, in the 70s and 80s before it was suspended in 1990. Robert Herhusky, art professor and coordinator of the event, brought the glass program back in 1996 with the help of students, donations from local glass studios, and hard work. (photo KM)
