Esteban Nominates Faculty for New Statewide Award

President Manuel A. Esteban has nominated four faculty for the Stanley T. Wang Award, a new award program established by CSU Trustee Stanley Wang.

The four are Dale Steiner, Department of History, for the award in visual and performing arts and letters; James Pushnik, Department of Biological Sciences, for the award in natural sciences, mathematical and computer sciences, and engineering; Paul Persons, Department of Political Science, for the award in social and behavioral sciences and public service; and James F. Mensching, Department of Management Information Systems, for the award in education and professional and applied science field.

Wang has given the CSU system $1 million. "The award will celebrate those CSU faculty and administrators who through extraordinary commitment and dedication have made exemplary contributions and achievements in their academic disciplines and areas of assignment,"said Wang.

Each CSU campus president was invited to submit nominees for the award from each of the four disciplines mentioned above. From this pool, a committee appointed by Chancellor Charles Reed and Wang will select four faculty and one administrator to receive the $20,000 awards, which will be for discretionary use. The awards will be presented annually for the next ten years by the CSU Foundation.

Wang, a CSU trustee since 1994, is founder, president, and chief executive officer of Pantronix Corp., in Fremont.
