Eric Adams, groundskeeper with Facilities Management at California State University, Chico, received a Governor's Employee Safety Award on August 20 in Sacramento for managing pests without using toxic chemicals.

Last year, Adams planned and implemented a pesticide management program that eliminated toxic pesticides and replaced them with environmentally safer organic products.

"We tested these methods and they really work," said Joe Covert, manager of grounds and building trades at CSU, Chico. "Chico is con-sidered a leader in the area of non-toxic pesticide management, thanks to Eric."

Adams won the campus employee safety award last spring, which led to his nomination for the state award. The awards are given annually by the state to employees who made special efforts promoting employee safety in the prior year.
