Students Attend National Association of Black AccountantsWith help from the College of Business's Business Resource Center and additional donations, eleven African American students from California State University, Chico attended the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) Western Region Student Conference in Los Angeles Sept. 23-25. This is the first time in three years that Chico has had students participate in the conference. The NABA is dedicated to bringing together students and professionals with similar interests and commitment to professional and academic excellence. Ebony Williams, a CSU, Chico sophomore majoring in management information science, received a $500 scholarship from the California Black Chamber of Commerce for attending the conference. Aubry Stone, CEO and president of the chamber, offered the scholarship with the criteria that the student have community spirit and be in contact with a mentor. "A donation from Andersen Consulting helped students with their conference fees. Air fare was donated by a group of Sacramento businesses with the help of the local Sacramento NABA conference," said Gary McMahon, director for the Business Resource Center. The College of Business established the Business Resource Center in August 1998. Its mission is to aggressively recruit economically disadvantaged students to the College of Business and to provide innovative educational support programs for all students. -- Gary McMahon, director for the Business Resource Center.
