Patrick W. Kopp, University Public Events director, won the coveted Western Arts Alliance Award September 3, 1999 in Denver, Colorado.

Western Alliance bestows the Jerry Willis Award to an individual in recognition of an outstanding performing arts program. The Willis Award honors artistic excellence and extraordinary leadership in service to our communities and the arts field.

For over thirty-five years Kopp has been involved in the performing arts in California. His career started at CSU, Chico in 1964, and he co-founded Court Theatre (summer theatre program) in 1967. As director of Chico Presents he brings over sixty productions to the North State annually. Further, he schedules and promotes cultural activities on the CSU, Chico campus and elevates the profile of the arts. Throughout the years, Patrick Kopp has directed, taught, and handled technical and front- of- house responsibilities in Butte County, San Francisco, and the Tahoe, Nevada region.

He has raised the level and profile of presenting theatre, dance, and music in the performing arts by his leadership in the arts community, not only in Northern California, but throughout California. His passion for the arts, the artist, and the community is deep. He is a master at utilizing the California Arts Council touring program to benefit the Northern California region.

Jerry Willis was a leader and visionary who epitomized integrity and honesty. Patrick W. Kopp emulates these same traits to further the development and growth of the arts. His encouragement, leadership, guidance, and entrepreneurial insight have reached hundreds of professionals and hundreds of thousands of audience members.
