CSU, Chico Receives Loan from City
A loan to CSU, Chico for $1.5 million to buy property in the College Park area was approved by the Chico City Council at its meeting on November 2.
CSU, Chico's Research Foundation, a non-profit auxiliary organization, made the request on behalf of the university. The money will be used to assist the university in meeting its future land needs, including the possibilities of parking and future buildings.
Plans for land acquisition include buying property along Warner Street between West Sacramento and College Drive, as it becomes available. Paul Moore, vice president for University Advancement and Student Affairs, made it clear that the plan is to apply no pressure, but to simply acquire property as it is put up for sale.
The area is pocketed between the Health Center, Nettleton Stadium, and university housing. The area was a prime residential location in former years, but as the university has grown, residents have moved on and many of the houses have become student rentals.
"We are very grateful to the City Council and staff for their help. The relationship of the city and university is very postive, as it should be, which bodes well for the university and our community," said Moore. -- KM
