Holiday Classic
Chico Performances and Friends of the Chico Community Ballet are
again joining forces to bring the holiday classic ballet Nutcracker
to Laxson Auditorium, Dec. 9–11 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 11 and
12 at 2 p.m.
Members of the Chico Community Ballet are dancing all of the roles.
In past productions, some of the leading roles were filled by professional
dancers. This year, Chico Community Ballet members will dance all
of the major roles. According to Deborah Jorritsma, director and
choreographer of the Nutcracker, the current senior company
is made up of accomplished dancers who have taken years of classes.
The Nutcracker, based on the novel by E.T.A. Hoffmann,
takes you on a magical journey with a young girl named Clara and
her beloved Nutcracker, a Christmas gift from her godfather. When
Clara’s enchanted Nutcracker comes to life, he takes Clara
to a land where fairytales come to life, larger-than-life mice and
soldiers fight, and snowflakes and flowers dance.
Tickets are $14–23 and can be purchased at the University
Box Office. Tickets purchased at the door are $2 extra.
