REACH (Raising Educational Achievement in Collaborative Hubs) is a new program created under the Chico Student Success Center at CSU, Chico in efforts to increase academic achievement amongst first-year students. We fully understand the obstacles that come along with entering college for the first time and, in response, have designed a program that makes navigating the university and achieving academic success much easier. To do this, we have developed clear paths to tutoring, financial and academic planning, collaborative learning communities, and effective study environments for all REACH students. In a sense, REACH is your free comprehensive map to college and our mentors will be your personal guide!
Each REACH student is provided a peer mentor who works one-on-one with the student to ensure their academic success, with additional support from faculty mentors as well. REACH participants also gain a sense of community by becoming a part of a collaborative hub of nine other students whom they study with weekly. At these weekly study jams, students are able to collaborate and help one another learn the material covered in their courses. In addition, hubs are provided the opportunity to plan and attend an event of their choice each month. In doing so, students form bonds with other REACH participants, their mentors and faculty. These events also allow them to explore Chico and feel a greater connection to the community. This allows students to create long lasting friendships and relationships with others on campus, which aids in increasing students’ potential for success!
