Event Management

The Special Event and Tourism (SET) option is designed to prepare students for careers in the event management profession and the tourism industry. Event management encompasses all types of events, such as conferences, conventions, exhibitions, festivals, and fundraising, political, religious, social, and sporting events as well as numerous other special events. Tourism jobs can be found in a multitude of industries: airlines, amusement parks, casinos, convention and visitors bureaus, cruise lines, destination management companies, hotels, museums, resorts, restaurants, tour operators, travel agencies, and wineries, just to name a few. The program equips students with a profound understanding of philosophical and historical foundations of leisure-services in general, and up-to-date specialized knowledge and skills in event and tourism management, which enable them to competently undertake management positions in a wide-range of event and tourism industries, both within the United States or elsewhere in the world.
