Resort and Lodging Management
The Resort and Lodging Management Option (RLM) was created in 1990, in response to CSU, Chico's increased demand for educational opportunities in hospitality management, one of the fastest growing employment sectors in California and the nation: hotel, resorts, country clubs, restaurants, spas, cruise lines, destination management, and convention centers.
The RLM option coursework is a joint effort, that combines the unique qualifications of educators in the Department of Recreation, Hospitality and Parks Management with other disciplines (i.e. Business, Communications). This cooperative approach to a hospitality-oriented education emphasizes the importance of a broad-based background, required in a constantly evolving service industry.
As the world becomes more independent, (socially, economically, and politically) it is vital that future hospitality leaders be prepared to work with a variety of cultures. At CSU, Chico, every effort is made to aid the students in arranging their internship/on-the-job experience in areas of interest to them. In addition to the local and statewide appointments, such as Lake Tahoe, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Palm Springs, experiences have been organized in such diverse resort locations as Hawaii, Germany, Australia, and all the 50 states, and many of the territories, in the United States.
