CSU Chico Regulations on the Operation of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)

At CSU Chico and across the CSU System, unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), more commonly known as “drones”, are being used for a variety of applications.  UAS have important positive impacts on research, education and training, campus management, and student life.  This ranges from geographical, economic, environmental, engineering, or agricultural research and education, to recording and sharing campus events with the world, our community, and our stakeholders.

It is expected that UAS usage will increase significantly in the next several years, in alignment with the University’s mission.  These regulations are provided to ensure that University-associated UAS operations comply with federal, state, regional and CSU regulations, and address health and safety, privacy, and environmental risks.
