9.25.2007 -Minimum Wage

RE: Minimum Wage and Foundation Employees

In September 2006, the State Legislature and Governor approved an increase in the State’s minimum wage for all employees. This was a two-step increase with the first one effective last January 2007 and increasing the minimum wage to $7.50 per hour. In January 2008 an additional increase will be put into effect raising the minimum wage to $8.00 per hour.

As a private non-profit employer in California, the CSU, Chico Research Foundation is subject to these increases. Therefore, effective January 1, 2008, any Foundation employee wage rates that are less than $8.00 per hour will automatically be adjusted to $8.00 per hour. Those are the only changes that will be automatically handled through the payroll process. Every project director will need to review their individual budgets to determine their ability to provide any other type of increases. Increases above the new minimum wage level will require the completion of a Personnel Action Form.
