Zero Energy Homes

Mini Lab

The Zero Energy Home Project, directed by Dr. Greg Kallio of the College of Engineering, is aimed at developing and evaluating cost-effective, energy-saving measures in new home construction and existing home retrofits. The Project will test energy-efficient components and designs, on-site renewable energy, and operational strategies in fully-instrumented Lab Homes and smaller Test Boxes. The Lab Homes are sponsored by the DOE Building America Program in helping to achieve their goal of affordable zero energy homes by 2020. The Test Boxes offer a low-cost, flexible facility for evaluating the effectiveness of cutting-edge products and designs in a side-by-side testing environment.
