Religion and Public Education Resource Center (RPERC)

The Religion and Public Education Resource Center provides general information about the ethical, legal, and educational issues that arise in connection with the topic of religion and public education. RPERC rests on the conviction that the academic study of the world's religions in public schools not only makes an indispensable contribution to historical and cultural literacy, it is also an integral part of education for citizenship in a pluralistic democracy.

RPERC consults with classroom teachers, school administrators, school board members, textbook publishers, academic researchers, journalists, members of the legal profession, and members of the general public in efforts to understand and support public education about religion in ways that are constitutionally permissible and academically sound. RPERC serves as a clearinghouse for resources on a wide range of issues arising in connection with the topic of religion and public education.

Established in 1995 by the Department of Religious Studies at California State University, Chico, the Religion and Public Education Resource Center is non-partisan and serves the needs of schools throughout the United States.
