My areas of teaching and research are comparative religious ethics, religion and politics, and religion and public education. I direct the Religion and Public Education Resource Center (RPERC) at Chico State, and I serve on the statewide steering committee of the California 3 Rs Project (Rights, Responsibilities, Respect): A Project for Finding Common Ground on Issues of Religion and Values in Public Schools. Since 2008 I have been co-chair of the American Academy of Religion’s consultation on “Religion Education in Public Schools: International Perspectives.”
Among the courses I teach are RELS 347 “Cross-Cultural Environmental Ethics”; RELS 348 “Jesus, Buddha, Marx: Comparative Ethics”; RELS 358 “Religion in American Public Schools”; and RELS 480 “Theories and Criticisms of Religion.” I’m currently working with a group of scholars on a book project addressing the topic of “Globalization, Religion, and the Practice of Global Ethics.”
