My main goal as an educator is to help students acquire a sense of history—an awareness of "the presence of the past," as T. S. Eliot describes it—along with an appreciation for the wisdom found in art, music, literature, philosophy, and religion. Special areas of interest include Classical Greece and Rome, Ancient Israel, and Modern Europe and America.
