Greek Life: Letters Today, Leaders Tomorrow
Mission Statement
Greek Life at CSU, Chico is committed to the ideals of scholarship, leadership, and service. The Greek Life staff is dedicated to involving, inspiring, and impacting student lives through educational experiences that focus on personal growth, accountability, and the responsibility of representing the university and their Greek Organizations.
University Recognized Sororities and Fraternities
Within Greek Life, there are three councils that are made up of the representatives from the university recognized Greek Organizations:
Why Go Greek?
Friendship/Brotherhood/Sisterhood
The ideal of brotherhood/sisterhood is the foundation upon which each fraternity/sorority is built. Within each fraternity/sorority there is a close bond of friendship that each chapter works to ensure with every new member class. As a member of the Greek community, you will have the opportunity to meet people of various backgrounds and form lifelong friendships.
Academics
The Greek community recognizes that the academic portion of your collegiate career is the most important aspect. All councils have a required minimum G.P.A of 2.5 for individuals to go through rush and to remain in the fraternity/sorority. Some chapters require even higher than a 2.5 G.P.A to join.
Within each Greek organization there are members in a variety of majors. Mentors are able to seek tutoring, class schedule and instructor advice from fellow chapter members. The U.S. Department of Education data shows that Greek members graduate at a rate of 70% compared to the 50% national average. Fraternities and sororities help you efficiently balance academics and fun while gaining the most from your collegiate experience.
Community Service
As the leaders of tomorrow, Chico State Greeks recognize the importance of community service and relations. The Greek Community strives for the betterment of our community and their individual members through philanthrophic efforts. Each sorority and fraternity has specific philanthropy that they raise money and awareness for. Along with these specific philanthropies, the councils also participate together in campus wide philanthropies, such as Adopt a Block and Greek Week.
Career Networking and Professionalism
Becoming Greek helps you develop good communication skills, leadership qualities, a personable attitude and a drive for success. Greek organizations across the country help network Greeks for potential employment opportunities, before and after graduation. Being Greek you learn how to conduct yourself in a professional manner and to effectively communicate in all types of situations.
