Financial Aid Students
CSU, Chico uses Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). Student Financial Services (SFIN) disburses financial aid and other refunds through Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). EFT delivers your financial aid (after payment of University charges) directly to your checking account. All financial aid types are eligible for electronic funds transfer.
To Receive Your Aid By EFT
- Have a checking or savings account in your name at almost any bank, savings and loan institution, or credit union, and have pre-printed checks available 60 days before your first scheduled disbursement.
- Submit a completed EFT Authorization form 21 days before your first scheduled disbursement. Parents receiving PLUS Loans must complete a separate form with their account information.
- Complete all aid eligibility requirements as specified by the Financial Aid & Scholarship Office, including pre-loan counseling and loan promissory notes.
- Check your Portal account approximately ten business days before each disbursement date to ensure that you are enrolled in the appropriate number of units and that your Financial Aid To Do List is complete.
- Confirm electronic deposit with your bank and payment of University charges (Portal account).
EFT Authorization
Only one authorization form is required unless you change your name or bank account. Immediately notify SFIN of any changes, as incorrect account information causes a substantial delay in your disbursement.
To obtain and print an authorization form from the web, go to:

EFT Disbursement Notices
You may be notified via e-mail or postal mail when an EFT refund has been disbursed to your bank account.
If you have not signed up for Electronic Funds Transfer, your financial aid will be disbursed by check. The check is mailed to your permanent address for the first disbursement in August of each year and mailed to your local address for other disbursement dates. Checks are mailed on the disbursement date and may take 2 or 3 business days to be delivered. Be sure to update your current address on your Portal account at least a week prior to any disbursement date.
Checks mailed to outdated addresses are often lost. It takes several weeks to secure the State Treasurer’s Office approval to re-issue a lost check. Filing for EFT and clearing all To Do items are the best ways to ensure timely receipt of your financial aid.
Please access your Portal account to check your Holds and To Do List. You must complete all financial aid requirements before funds can be released. The Financial Aid and Scholarship Office will notify students via e-mail of financial aid requirements.
You must have sufficient financial aid to pay your registration and other fees for each term, or you must pay any difference between the registration fees and anticipated aid by the Fee Payment Deadline. Failure to pay fees may result in enrollment cancellation. In most cases private scholarships will not show as anticipated aid and you are responsible for fee payment by the Fee Payment Deadline.
You are liable for all charges to your student account whether or not you receive financial aid. See Withdrawals/Dropping of Units and Registration Fees and Tuition for information regarding withdrawing from the University or dropping units and financial credit.
You are subject to normal collection actions for unpaid debts including but not limited to:
assessment of late registration and past due fees, withholding of University services, withholding of credit for and disenrollment from some or all classes, referral of the debt to a collection agency and/or credit reporting agency, intercept of amounts due you from the State of California, and/or legal action.
You are obligated to pay all costs of collection, including attorney fees, collection agency fees and court costs.
