What's New about the Catalog, Class Schedule, and Registration
Course Number Changes: Effective with the 2005-2007 University Catalog, all courses were renumbered to a new system that better matches state and national conventions. We have provided you a Find New/Old Course Number tool to quickly look up and find the equivalent of an old or new course number. See also Course Description Symbols and Terms for an explanation of the new course numbering system and other numbering conventions.
Class Schedule and Registration Changes: As of Fall 2005, Chico State is using the PeopleSoft Common Management System (PS/CMS) to build and maintain the Class Schedule and to register students through the Portal. This has resulted in some changes in the Web Class Schedule format, vocabulary, and scheduling and registration concepts and procedures. You will notice that courses with two or more co-requisite components (e.g. a lecture and its required activity or laboratory, or discussion, seminar, clinical practice, or supervision components) are scheduled as separately numbered sections, with each section's Course Component noted and coded as LEC, SEM, DIS, ACT, LAB, CLN or SUP.
You will be required to register for all course component sections of a single course, and will be assisted by prompts during your Portal session. You will enroll in the section indicated as the Enrollment Section, noted by an E in the Class Schedule, then either automatically enrolled in the co-requisite Non-Enrollment Section, noted by an N in the Class Schedule, or prompted to choose from Non-Enrollment sections offerings, if available (noted by an * in the Class Schedule).
California State University, Chico considers e-mail to be the essential method for communicating official University business with students. Each student is provided with a campus WildcatMail account as part of your Portal account. We strongly urge you to review the contents of your WildcatMail account on a frequent and regular basis. Official notifications from the University related to enrollment, academic status, fees, holds, and financial aid will be sent only to your WildcatMail account. If you do not want to examine your WildcatMail account on a regular basis, you can adjust that account to forward messages to another e-mail address which you do check frequently. For more information about forwarding your e-mail visit www.csuchico.edu/stcp/email/forward.shtml.
All first time enrollees who are 18 years of age or younger are required to provide proof of full immunization against the hepatitis B virus. A Certification of Measles and Rubella Immunization is required of all students born after 1-1-57. Immunization Certification forms are available at http://em.csuchico.edu/sro/Forms/ImmunizationCertification.pdf. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in a hold being placed on your academic record. For information regarding how you may obtain these immunizations, please visit the Student Health Center or call 530-898-5241.
You are required to provide the University with emergency contact information. Update your Emergency Contact in your Portal as soon as possible. A hold will be placed on your academic record if you do not comply with this requirement. If you have any questions please contact University Development and Advancement, Sapp Hall, 530-898-5297, or FAX: 530-898-4747.
Registration is done through your Portal account with first access on your priority appointment day based on class level and then first come, first served thereafter. New students will be provided with advising and registration access during your Summer Orientation session. Continuing students should go to your major department advisor or, if undeclared, the Advising Office in SSC 120 to plan your course of study, and then register for classes.
You will be given a specific priority appointment day on which you may first enter the Portal registration system. It is important that you begin registering on your priority appointment day for the best opportunity to get classes. Continuing students can find your priority enrollment appointment day by looking in your personal Portal account beginning two weeks before registration opens. New freshman or transfer students will be sent an invitation to register approximately one week prior to the new/transfer student registration period. The invitation to register will include instructions on how to retrieve your student ID number so that you may activate your Portal account, as well as specific registration and fee payment information.
Activate your Portal account by visiting the Chico Web at www.csuchico.edu, clicking on the Portal icon, and following the instructions. With your Portal account you can register for classes online, check holds, print your study list, view grades, find financial aid informationand account balances, print an unofficial copy of your transcript, and find the most updated schedule of classes.
*24/7 operation is subject to periodic downtime for required maintenance. If denied access, please wait awhile and attempt again.
