A Step-by-Step Guide to Registration

Step 3: New Students – Attend a Summer or Mini-Orientation Session

New students and their parents are invited to attend a Summer Orientation or Mini-Orientation session for the best possible introduction to CSU, Chico. Orientation programs and services are specifically designed to assist you with course selection and registration, to help you understand policies and procedures, and to answer your questions.

Summer Orientation:

New students and their parents will enjoy these beneficial one- or two-day orientation sessions scheduled June through July. During Summer Orientation sessions, students learn about graduation and major requirements and have the opportunity to speak with advising professionals about majors, scheduling classes, etc. You will be introduced to campus services, resources, and organizations as well as learn about community service programs and the culture of Chico State. By attending Summer Orientation, you will have the earliest possible access to register for classes.

To register for a Summer Orientation session, visit http://em.csuchico.edu/aap/SummerOrientation/. First come, first served registration began on April 3st, 2006. If you have questions, please call the Summer Orientation Office at 530-898-5714.

Mini-Orientation Sessions:

If you are unable to attend a Summer Orientation session, small group advising sessions known as mini-Orientations are offered Monday through Thursday in the Academic Advising Office located in MLIB 190.

Fall 2006: July 5 - July 20
  Monday - Thursday: 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

If you attend a Summer Orientation session, you will meet with a representative from your major department. If you come to campus for a Mini-Orientation session, it may be possible to meet with your major department advisor if you phone the department to make an appointment in advance of your visit. Not all majors have advisors available throughout the summer, but in some cases, advisors will make special arrangements to meet you if they know when you are coming. If you are unable to arrange a meeting and need advising regarding your major, consult with staff in the Office of Advising and Orientation, 530-898-5712. You may also call Campus Information, 530-898-4636, and ask to be connected to the department of your major. Finally, visit the Index to Degrees & Majors which includes links to major department information.

As a new undergraduate transfer student, you will want to obtain a Degree Progress Report (DPR), an official summary of the graduation requirements you have met and those you still need to complete. If you attend a Summer Orientation session, you will automatically receive a copy. If you are unable to attend Summer Orientation, you are advised to attend a Mini-Orientation session through the Office of Advising and Orientation. You may receive a copy of your DPR at your Mini-Orientation session by signing up at least ten working days in advance of your visit to campus. As the DPR may not include an evaluation of the courses in which you are currently enrolled, please bring a current unofficial transcript with you to your advising session.

If you have initialized your Portal account, you may access your Degree Progress Report online. Find it under the "Records, Registration, & Finances" tab and select "View My Degree Progress Report".

Prior to first week of classes, we offer more opportunity to welcome you and help you get connected to the Chico State Community. New students can access additional group advising sessions and attend mandatory orientation activities scheduled Saturday through Sundaythe week before classes each semester. If you are a new student and do not receive a schedule of these activities, please contact the Orientation staff at 530-898-5714.

If you are unable to attend any of the Orientation Sessions, you may still register for classes through your Portal account during your assigned registration days.
