A Step-by-Step Guide to Registration
Step 5: Clear All Holds and Take All Required Tests
A registration hold will prevent you from registering. When you attempt to register you will be informed if you have a registration hold and will be directed to an appropriate office to clear it. Take care of all holds promptly. You are well informed by public announcements, University publications, or letters of notification of holds or situations which will result in a hold. Holds may be placed whenever necessary.
Advisory
We advise you to use the Portal to check for any holds or other messages that may affect your registration.
Warning
A registration hold may be placed after you have successfully registered. If not cleared, you will not be eligible for future registration. Clear all holds promptly.
A registration hold may be placed any time a University debt or other serious violation occurs. Take care of all registration holds as soon as possible. Please go to Student Financial Services - Cashiering, KNDL 212, to pay fees owed.
Required Tests
When you attempt to register you will be informed if you have not completed the required EPT and/or ELM tests or met required levels of proficiency to register for certain courses. Unless exempt, you must take the English Placement Test (EPT) and the Entry Level Math test (ELM) before you will be allowed to register in any CSU, Chico courses; and you must pass ENGL 130 before you may register for any Writing Proficiency (WP) Course. See Math and Writing Requirements in the University Catalog for complete information.
