A Step-by-Step Guide to Registration
Step 7: Register for Classes Using Your Portal Account
You must have an active Portal account on the Chico State Connection to register for courses. Go to http://portal.csuchico.edu/cp/home/loginf to begin the process. Follow the instructions on the web site. See below for more information.
Access to Registration - Your Invitation to Register
Your Invitation to Register will instruct you on where to find your enrollment appointment information.
Your Access to Registration is based on existing University policy and practices. Your enrollment appointment is assigned according to the priority group to which you belong. There are six priority registration groups; a special priority group, post baccalaureate students, seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen.
Disabled students, students participating in NCAA athletic teams, and others are given a special priority according to existing University policy and, therefore, are scheduled to register during the priority registration period. All other students are assigned into a registration group according to the class level computed for them at the time the Invitation to Register is produced, which is approximately three weeks before their registration period opens. The class level for a continuing student is determined by adding units in which the students is enrolled currently with the total completed units the student has earned prior to the beginning of the current semester.
You will be assigned to only one Registration Group. If you register with the special priority group, you will not be allowed to register with your class level group.
In order to emphasize the importance of academic achievement and to reward its attainment, as well as reward those who comply with mandatory advising, the University has adopted policies to provide such students with special registration priorities. A special scheduler priority will be given to students who meet the following criteria.
High Achievement:
Students with a minimum of 12.0 Chico units passed and a Chico GPA of 3.50 and greater will be assigned an advanced priority when invited to register each semester. These students will be assigned a priority to precede their class level group. Thus, a high-achieving freshman will be assigned a registration priority in advance of the rest of the freshman class, and so on.
Honors in General Education
Honors in General Education students will be assigned a registration priority in advance of all other undergraduates, except graduating seniors.
Required Advising: Some departments may give a required advising priority for students who meet with their advisors as an added incentive. They will receive a higher priority within their class level over students who do not meet with their advisors. Inquire at your major department to determine whether it is participating.
Registering for Corequisite Classes
When adding classes on the Portal that require a corequisite, both courses must be entered into the data fields and submitted during the same transaction.
Class Swap
The Swap function allows you to drop a class or section if, and only if, you can add another class or section. If you are unable to add the class or section you want for any reason, the class you indicated to drop will not be dropped. If you are successful in adding the course you want, the course you requested to drop will be dropped.
Viewing Your Schedule of Classes
You may view your Schedule of Classes using your Portal account. Follow the instructions on the Portal.
Exiting the System
Always log off your Portal account when finished to protect your personal information.
