Stafford Loans

General Information

Stafford loans, through the Direct Loan Program, are available for undergraduate, credential, and post-baccalaureate students enrolled at least half time. By filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), loans may be included as part of your financial aid award.

Pre-loan Counseling

First time borrowers must complete and submit a master promissory note before the first loan disbursement may be released. The promissory note is your promise to repay loan funds disbursed to you. You are required to submit only one note during your academic career at CSU, Chico. If you are also receiving a Perkins loan, you must complete pre-loan counseling and a promissory note for each loan.

Required steps to complete when you first take out a direct loan include Loan Entrance Counseling – Entrance Exam and Direct Loan Master Promissory Note.

Online Exit Counseling

When you graduate, leave school, or drop below half-time enrollment, you must complete exit counseling. This exit interview will help you understand your rights and responsibilities as a student loan borrower, and provide information and terms to help you make the right choices in managing your loan repayment.
