New Charges to Students
Student Health Service
Historically, Student Health Service has been a very inexpensive resource for students to use for their health care needs; for example if they ever fell ill, got injured, or needed to be checked by a clinician for any reason, they could use the Health Center at no cost or low cost. My goal is to continue providing that same level of high quality care to all students of Chico State with the prudent use of your health fees.
This year is when we felt a big decline in our economy. Due to the continued budget cuts to the entire CSU system and the reduction of enrollment, Student Health Service needed to review our current operating budget and realized that there are certain ways to avoid increasing the health fee for this year through a cost recovery program.
Therefore, effective Fall 2009 semester, we have implemented our cost recovery efforts through various methods such as charging for laboratory fees that we send out to reference laboratories, costly orthopedic supplies, optional immunizations and injections, and failed appointments called “no show fees”.
On the other hand, all efforts are being made to explore programs that would cover the above charges such as the Family PACT (Family Planning Access, Care and Treatment) program to offset these charges for those students that qualify for the program.
