When is the Health Center open?
ACADEMIC HOURS:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Wednesday : 9:15 a.m. to 5 p.m.
How much will my visit cost? What is included (for free) in the prepaid health fee that I pay every semester?
It will cost you nothing for the visit; it is included in your health fees that you pay every semester (there is a nominal charge for summer visits only). There is no cost for X-rays.But you will be charged at cost for orthopedic supplies.The only cost, is for the medication you will need from the pharmacy.Most common lab tests are free but patients may occasionally have to pay for specialized tests. Can I buy medicine at the Health Center? What are my payment options? Are prescription cards accepted?
There is a pharmacy located inside the Health Center where you can pick up your prescriptions and over-the-counter medications. You can use your Visa or Mastercard, Wildcat dollars, or cash. The Pharmacy does not accept prescription cards....back
Does the Health Center have real doctors and nurses?
The Health Center is staffed by 4 full-time Board Certified, licensed physicians, 1 physician assistant and 7 nurse practitioners. We also have 3 licensed vocational nurses, 3 medical assistants, 3 clinical laboratory scientists and 2 pharmacists.

Are any orthopedic services offered at SHC? For example cast a broken arm or leg if no surgery required?
The Student Health Service provides services to treat musculoskeletal problems. Our physicians and mid-level practitioners are able to treat/diagnose many orthopedic problems. If casting is required because of a fracture or if orthopedic surgery is necessary, a patient is referred to an orthopedic specialist outside of the facility. We have an orthopedist who sees patients on a consultative basis twice a month (in-house); however, a referral is required by one our clinicians.

Where should I park to go to the Health Center?
Patient parking is located at the north side of the Student Health Center. Parking spots are marked specifically for patients. You must come inside of the Student Health Center and obtain a parking permit that is placed in the vehicle....back
CONFIDENTIALITY
Will my visit appear on my school record?
The Health Center keeps your record on file only at the facility. If you need your records to be transferred somewhere else we would need your request to do so. Everything is confidential.

Your visits are confidential! Be assured that your personal information is completely confidential; none of your information will be shared with your parents, teachers or others without your written consent....back
INSURANCE
Do I have to have medical insurance to use the Health Center? If not, why would I need health insurance if there is a Health Center in the university?
No. The Student Health Center is a free service to Chico State students(except summer). To receive service you must present a valid Chico State ID card.The Student Health Fee only covers services available at the Student Health Center. Payment for medical care provided outside of the Health Center is the responsibility of the student or their health insurance plan.

My parents have me under their health insurance. Does the Health Center accept health insurance?
No. If you pay for prescriptions, immunizations, or lab fees that your health insurance covers, you can get receipts to bill your insurance. They would then reimburse you.

TB TESTING
Does the Health Center do TB tests? If so how much do they cost?
The Student Health Center does TB (PPD) testing Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday. There is no charge for the test(except during the summer). Patients are required to return for a “reading” of their PPD test 48-72 hours after the test is placed. If a patient fails to return, they will be charged $10 to have the test repeated.

NUTRITION
Is there someone in the Health Center that I could talk to about nutrition and health?
The Student Health Service has nutrition interns available through the week to help with your diet questions and concerns. Please call 898-5241 or go online to schedule appointment times....back
