Origins of Sigma Nu, Iota Kappa

In the early spring of 1974, a man named Jim Cherry came from Nationals to try once again to establish a chapter at Chico State. According to legend, the attempt had been made to do so several times in the past, each time the attempt failed. This time, Jim was able to draw on the help of a few people who were either transfers from other schools or relatives of members in other chapters. As his core group he had: Robert Lohman, Bob Vost, and Gig Hubbell. All active members of the Sigma Nu chapter in San Jose (Zeta Iota). He also had the services of Jason Peltier, whose half-brother and cousin were active members of the Davis chapter.  With this core group of helpers, Jim set up a table in the BMU and began to attract prospective members. The reasons that each prospective member signed up were as diverse as the membership itself.  There were the transfers from San Jose.  Jason brought with him a number of friends from the dorms. The rest is a 35 year history of excellence.
