Creation Science Evangelist comes to CSUC

The Lighthouse student organization had invited Dr. Kent Hovind, Creation Science Evangelist to CSUC in the Spring 04. This was the founding event of the Skeptics Club. Greg Bard, Brent Bartlett and Ross Hertzog, had seen Hovind's presentation before and knew exactly what to expect. They put out their own flyers publicizing the event and issued a class A "Critical Thinking Alert" for the entire area. They brought large posterboard placards bearing the names of various logical fallacies: "Straw Man!" "Quoting out of Contest!" "Appeal to Authority!" to the event, much to the chagrin of the organizers. They apparently had gotten accostomed to being sheltered from critical analysis all this time worshiping! The police were almost called!

Too bad for that pesky First Amendment, not to mention the apparently heathen University Mission Statement. The founding members of the Skeptics Club were members of the audience who signed the roster to petition for the recognition of the club by the university at the table set up by Bard, Hertzog, and Bartlett at the event that night.
