CONSTITUTION
FALL 2004
Preamble
Forasmuch as it supports the University Mission Statement; We, the members of the California State University, Chico
Skeptics Club do hereby establish this Constitution to outline the relationship between the organization, its members
and the University; in order to advocate the use of reason, science, and skepticism as the best available tools for the
acquisition of knowledge and the solution of societal problems.
Article I - Name
The name of this organization shall be The CSUC Skeptics Club, hereinafter referred to as The Club.
Article II - Purpose
The purpose of this organization shall be:
. To question all claims including ones that are generally accepted as true; and
. To fulfill the process of inquiry by suspending judgment on and by the outright doubting of assertations made on
campus and in the community; and
. To find and conspicuously identify any and all logical fallacies perpetrated upon the campus and the community;
and
. To enrich Chico State campus life by sponsoring educational events and fostering student dialogue on matters of
faith, science and reason; and
. To establish a positive social environment for Chico State students who are rationalists, non-theists, humanists
or skeptics; and
. To engage Chico State Students in issues of national and international import surrounding freedom of conscience
and secular education; and
. To do all other activities permitted of a recognized CSUC student organization.
Article III . Membership
A Qualifications of Members
1 All persons expressing an interest in writing shall be considered members of The Club.
2 Voting privileges shall be recognized only in regularly enrolled CSU, Chico students; however,
participation shall not be otherwise restricted.
3 It shall be the duty of every member to bring to the attention of The Club any issue that might
provide an opportunity to manifest our purpose or otherwise affect the club.
B Assessments and Dues
There shall be no dues required of members
Article IV - Officers and Committees
A Criteria
All officers must be regularly enrolled students in good standing at California State University, Chico.
B Election and Removal
1 Officers shall be elected from and by the members of the club
2 A quorum shall consist of four people.
3 It shall take a majority vote of all members present to remove the Chair or President from office.
4 The Chair or President may appoint other officers.
C Duties and Responsibilities
A Chair or President shall be generally responsible for implementing policies and supervising activities of the club;
and shall preside at all meetings of the club and represent the club to the University and others.
D Committees
The President or Chair may appoint persons to committees and set forth their charge as needs arise.
Article V - Meetings
Meetings shall be conducted at least semesterly in a well noticed, and open public process.
Article VI - Decision Making Process
The decision making process shall be of a democratic form under the general supervision of the Chair or President.
Article VII -Law
The organization shall act in accordance with all international treaties, and all federal, state, local and campus
policies.
Article VIII - Advisor
A faculty or staff advisor shall be selected and removed by a majority vote of the members present at any meeting in
which such a proposal is considered.
Article IX - Amendment Process
This constitution may be amended by a majority vote of the members present at any meeting after such a proposal is
introduced.
Article X - Disbursal of Assets
Should the club disband, the Chair or President shall disburse the assets to Campus Freethought Alliance, PO Box 664
Amherst NY 14226. Should no officers be available, the Associated Students Interclub Council Chair or the Associated
Students Executive Vice President shall be authorized to make the disbursal.
