Program Requirements
Subject matter competence is required before teaching practicum. Applicants may qualify for subject matter competence by
- Completing an approved subject matter preparation program at CSU, Chico (verified by the subject matter adviser in that department and sent directly to the School of Education), or
- Completing a program at another university that is California Commission on Teacher Credentialing approved (must supply subject matter verification from that university), or
- Passing the appropriate California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET)
Your GPA must be 2.75 for your last 60 semester units or 2.67 overall. If it is below either of these, inquire at the Department of Education about the GPA appeal process.
Certificate of clearance (fingerprint clearance) or a copy of an emergency permit must be on file before beginning teaching practicum I. Download instructions for the fingerprinting process and the certificate of clearance form (pdf).
Verification of having passed the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) is required before teaching practicum.
