Concurrent Program Admission Requirements

Subject matter competence is required for program admission. Applicants qualify for subject matter competence by passing all three subtests of the Multiple Subject California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET). CSET results are only valid for ten years; results must be current through the entire credentiai program and the credential recommendation process. When completing the exams be sure to have your results sent to CSU, Chico.

Your GPA must be 2.75 for your last 60 semester units or 2.67 overall. If your GPA does not meet either of these minimums, inquire at the School of Education office about the GPA appeal process.

Certificate of Clearance (fingerprint clearance) or a copy of an emergency permit must be on file before beginning teaching practicum I. Download instructions for the fingerprinting process and the certificate of clearance form (pdf).

Applicants must earn a baccalaureate or higher degree, except in professional education, from a regionally accredited college or university. Click here for a list of accredited institutions.

Candidates may satisfy the state basic skills requirement by passing the entire California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) for Reading, Writing, and Mathematics, or by passing all three subtests of the Multiple Subject CSET and the CSET Writing Skills subtest. Verification is required before admission to a credential program. CBEST results do not expire; CSET results are only valid for ten years, and must be current through the entire credential program and the credential recommendation process. When completing the exam be sure to have your results sent to CSU, Chico. Additional options may be researched on the CTC website.

All prerequisite courses must be completed with grades of C- or higher prior to beginning the credential program.

Credential candidates must be admitted to the University before beginning a program. Apply to Chico State as a graduate student here

Candidates must reside within the CSU, Chico service area in order to complete the credential program.
