Phyllis Fernlund, PhD
Dr. Fernlund is a Professor of Education and former Dean of the College of Communication and Education at California State University, Chico. She previously served as dean of the School of Education at Sonoma State University. She is co-author of Civics: Participating in Our Democracy, a government and economics text for middle and high school students. Fernlund is the project director of the Teacher Quality Partnership grant to establish two programs: a rural teacher residency leading to a credential and MA, and an enhanced undergraduate teacher preparation program.
Fernlund is a member of the Executive Committee of the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and served for four years as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE). She was president and a member of the Executive Committee of the Teacher Education Council of State Colleges and Universities (TECSCU). She has been active in accreditation work, serving on the WASC Substantive Change Committee for regional higher education accreditation, as well as on the Board of Examiners of NCATE and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Fernlund received her PhD from the College of Education at Northwestern University and both her BA and MA from the University of Illinois, Urbana.
